Cultural Trip to

Guinea or Gambia

Guinea

We have six traditional roundhouses for guests, plus a larger house which can accommodate groups or families.  Batafon Arts compound is just 5 minutes from the river, a 10 minute walk to the local village and a 10 minute taxi ride from the main town of Boke.  The compound has water and shower facilities as well as music and dance areas.

Gambia

Some accommodation is available in our family house.  And for larger groups, we work with nearby guest houses who are accustomed to the requirements of European visitors.

Because of it's cultural blend West Africa's dance and music are among the most vibrant in Africa.  You can learn traditional percussion instruments, dance, cooking, language, culture - any or all of this!

The trip is suitable for all levels of musician - beginners, those who have some experience and professionals.  Everyone can learn something and being immersed in the African vibe is a good way to begin.

There is also an opportunity to take part in voluntary work for example helping with building, teaching or using other skills you have.  This gives the opportunity for you to give something back to the community you will be staying in.

Batafon Arts runs trips each year to Guinea and The Gambia.  The best time to go is between November-April.  Visits can be arranged for 2, 3 or 4 weeks, or longer if you would like.
